Utah

Utah is one of the fastest-growing states by population in the country, with a variety of energy resources from both fossil fuels and renewables, and net emissions increased 14% from 1990-2021. While coal production is decreasing, the state has the fourth-highest number of producing crude oil and natural gas leases on federal lands and accounts for 15% of crude oil produced from the Rocky Mountain region. Over three-fourths of in-state electricity is generated by natural gas and coal, with the remaining fraction of renewables largely coming from solar.
