Kansas

Kansas is a major agricultural state, ranking 3rd in the country for farmland coverage and 8th for ethanol production. The state has reduced emissions by around 11% from 2005-2021, with their last coal mine ceasing operations in 2016 and wind surpassing coal as the largest source of electricity generation in 2019. Over half of Kansas’s electricity generation comes from renewable sources — almost entirely from wind — and the state sends one-fourth of its electricity to other states through regional high-voltage transmission lines.
