Nebraska

Nebraska is the only state solely served by public utilities, and the state’s four largest electric utilities have goals to provide electricity with net-zero emissions by 2040 or 2050. Emissions have increased 30% from 1990-2021 and are driven by agriculture, with Nebraska ranking 4th in the country for farmland coverage and 5th for agriculture emissions. Over half of in-state electricity generation is from renewables and nuclear, with the majority of remaining electricity generated from coal.
