Iowa is a leader in wind energy, with over two thirds of the state’s electricity generation coming from renewable sources and their utility-scale solar, wind, and geothermal generation making up 7.5% of the country’s total renewable generation. The state ranks 8th in the country for energy consumption per capita and 5th for industrial sector energy use. Net emissions increased 13% from 1990-2021, with agriculture and industry emissions trending upwards.
